Plants are everywhere these days – they are showing up on your instagram feed, facebook post and you are now inspired to go on the plant parenting journey. Here are some tips on how to shop for your plants at our garden centres because we know choosing and caring for a plant may be slightly intimidating for first-time plant parents!

Before you head down to purchase your plants:

Do your research

Seen some plants on your social media? Save them. While the plants that you saw may not be suitable for your spaces, our staff can assist you better by knowing the type of plant you are looking for and will be able to give you other recommendations if required.

Know your spaces and your routine

Whether you are heading down to the garden centres or getting your plant online, it is essential to keep in mind that plants thrive at different spots, depending on the amount of space, light and care given. Before getting your plants, ask yourself these questions: What type of light does your space has? Do you have pets? How much attention can you give your plant? We recommend you to decide where you want your plant to be before adopting them home.

At the garden centre:

Choosing a healthy plant at the garden centre

What is the first plant that caught your attention? Do you want to bring it home? Pick it up and take a good look at it. Spot for any signs of distress and evaluate the conditions of the plant you are interested in. Are the leaves yellow and droopy? Are there white or brown specks on the underside of the leaves? Check in with our staff if you are not sure if your plant has a bug infestation.

Ask for help

Do not hesitate to check in with the staff. Check in with them on the requirements your selected plant needs – type of light, watering and pet toxicity. The staff are capable of guiding you through the selection of plants for your spaces and how to care for them.
